Stellar Edge is a washi lamp inspired by the motif of a black hole. Created in collaboration with Nao Washi, the last remaining hand-made washi producer in the Nao district of Saga Prefecture, the paper is infused with phosphorescent material and formed into a three-dimensional structure. When illuminated, the gentle irregularities unique to hand-made washi emerge; when switched off, the phosphorescent elements glow softly, creating an otherworldly presence.
This product is a redesigned model derived from a large-scale washi lamp based on the concept of the event horizon, originally presented at Path in Trace – Wadachi –, a solo exhibition by Shinichi Mita held in April 2025.

Nao Washi
With a 300-year history in Saga Prefecture, Nao Tesuki Washi is a handmade paper workshop that carries out every step of the papermaking process in Nao, Saga—from cultivating kaji plants, one of the primary raw materials of washi, to producing each finished sheet by hand.
Taking advantage of the long fibers unique to kaji, the washi combines remarkable thinness with durability and has long been renowned as a material for traditional lantern paper. While preserving traditional techniques, the workshop continues to explore the possibilities of strong and beautiful washi that harmonizes with contemporary interior and spatial design.
