About the Finish
Each piece is meticulously finished by hand using traditional lacquering techniques. No chemical coatings are used; instead, natural urushi lacquer is carefully applied with a brush. As every item is handcrafted, slight variations such as brush marks, tiny specks in the lacquer, or natural wood grain characteristics may occur, making each piece unique.

Care Instructions
This product is traditional lacquerware finished with natural urushi lacquer. The color and luster of the lacquer will gradually develop and change over time through use and exposure to heat.

Heating
Do not use over an open flame or in an oven, grill, or toaster.
Microwave use is permitted only in microwave mode, up to 500W for 2 minutes. Do not use oven, grill, or steam functions.
Avoid heating very small amounts of food, unevenly distributed food, oil by itself, or operating the microwave while empty. These conditions may cause localized overheating, resulting in scorching, blistering, or smoke.

General Care
Avoid striking or scraping the surface with metal cutlery, as this may cause scratches.
Do not soak the product in water or detergent.
For hand washing, use a mild dishwashing detergent and a soft sponge. Do not use steel wool or abrasive sponges.
If using a dishwasher, select the standard or low-temperature cycle and use a detergent intended for dishwashers.
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or excessively dry environments, and do not store the product in a refrigerator for extended periods.
In rare cases, some individuals may develop an allergic reaction to natural urushi lacquer. If irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately and consult a dermatologist.

ABOUT PRODUCT

Shitsurindo has carried forward the craft of lacquerware in the Echizen lacquerware region since its founding in 1793. While deeply rooted in tradition, the eighth-generation leadership has continued to challenge conventions, through the development of “Echizen hard urushi”—a dishwasher-safe lacquer created in collaboration with Fukui Prefecture and Fukui University.
URUSHICA is a new form of lacquerware co-developed with ZOZO NEXT. By enabling lacquer to adhere directly to heat-resistant resin, previously considered difficult, this innovation allows compatibility not only with dishwashers but also with microwave ovens. Designed for contemporary lifestyles, these pieces reimagine traditional lacquerware as something more accessible and familiar in everyday life.

Shitsurindo Co., Ltd.

Founded in 1793, Shitsurindo is a lacquerware atelier serving Eiheiji Temple, one of the head temples of Soto Zen Buddhism. Based in the Kawada district of Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture—one of Japan’s leading lacquerware production regions—the company has passed down the techniques of Echizen lacquerware for generations. In addition to traditional lacquerware production, Shitsurindo researches and develops innovations suited to contemporary lifestyles, including colorful lacquer finishes and “Echizen Hard Urushi,” a lacquer coating durable enough for dishwashers. Through brands such as “RIN&CO.” and “Shitsurindo,” the company proposes a richer way of living through lacquerware. Guided by the vision of “continuing to apply lacquer 100 years from now,” Shitsurindo aims to sustain and evolve both the culture of making and using lacquerware through boundary-crossing creative approaches and the vertical integration of its production region.
